Sushila Acharya's journey from the remote district of Jumla in Nepal to becoming a trailblazer in the trekking industry is a story of resilience, empowerment, and adventure. Born in a traditional society where girls were often confined to domestic roles, Sushila dreamed of breaking free and creating meaningful change. Supported by her parents, she pursued education beyond her village, driven by a passion for learning and social work. In 2007, she moved to Pokhara with limited resources but unwavering determination. To fund her education, she became one of Nepal's few female mountain guides, pioneering a path rarely taken by women.
Her trekking career became a catalyst for personal and professional growth. In 2008, she completed rigorous rock and ice climbing training, used her earnings to fund her bachelor's degree, and explored Nepal's breathtaking landscapes while connecting with people from diverse cultures. Inspired by her own struggles and achievements, Sushila founded Women Empowerment Trek (WET) in 2015. Based in Pokhara, WET provides women with opportunities to earn money for higher education, gain professional skills, challenge societal norms, and explore the Himalayas.
Driven by a love for adventure, cultural exchange, and women's economic independence, Sushila believes every mountain climbed is a step toward empowerment. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of determination and the impact of creating opportunities for others.
